The Bonn Center for Dependency and Slavery Studies seeks to employ as soon as possible and until 31 December 2025 a Curatorial Coordinator.

 

The Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn is an international research university that offers a widerange of degree programs. The Cluster of Excellence “Beyond Slavery and Freedom”, hosted by the Bonn Center for Dependency and Slavers Studies (BCDSS) is a research initiative funded by the Excellence Strategy of the Federal Government and the Länderfrom 2019 to 2025.

A central project of the BCDSS, led by Research Area B “Embodied Dependencies,“ is the organization and conduct of the exhibition “Slavery in Context: Materialities of Asymmetrical Dependencies.”

 

Your tasks:

  • Practical and content-related coordination of the exhibition project “Slavery in Context”, from the experimental version in 2021 to the final format in 2024/2025
  • Close communication and collaboration with allparties involved in the exhibition, such as university collections, external collections, BCDSS members, and consultants in exhibition layout and design
  • Establishment of contacts to further external partners
  • Further development of the exhibition concept, applying reflexive research methods
  • Close communication and cooperation with the BCDSS management, especially with regard to press and public relations work within the University of Bonn andthe broader public
  • Coordination of project-related publications, such as the exhibition catalog
  • 4 hours teaching per week/semester

Your profile:

  • Completed university degree (Master, Magister, possibly PhD) in a discipline related to museum and material culture studies, such as anthropology, archaeology, and art history
  • Excellent coordination and communication skills
  • Experience in designing exhibitions and curating collectionsas well asproject management
  • Excellent English and Germanskills, both writtenand spoken
  • Familiarity with and respect for academic work
  • Interest in working collaboratively on an international level
  • Willingness and ability to quickly and independently familiarize with new tasks and work environments
  • High degree of motivation, social competence, teamwork and communication skills, a talent for organizing, as well as an independent and reliable working mode
