DESCRIPTION:How did late antique households influence wider social organiz
ation and the Roman state? \nThey served as microcosms of society\, shapin
g social hierarchies and relationships. Within these spaces\, residents ne
gotiated various dynamics\, including those between free and slave\, paren
t and child\, and citizen and foreigner. The vulnerability of slaves to se
xual exploitation and the politics of desire significantly influenced dail
y interactions\, impacting the social status of all involved. This paper e
xamines these dynamics and their impact on late Roman attitudes during a t
ransformative era often dubbed the 'Age of Anxiety.'
