DESCRIPTION:Marion Gymnich is professor for English Literature and Culture
  at the University of Bonn as well as BCDSS Co-Speaker and principal inves
 tigator. In her research project on representations of domestic service\, 
 she explores changes and continuities in a wide range of literary and non-
 fictional depictions and negotiations of asymmetrical dependencies. In her
  lecture she explores "References to Religion and their Functions in US-Am
 erican Slave Narratives and Neo-Slave Narratives". Her lecture is part of 
 the public ZERG lecture series\, organized by the Centre for Religion and 
 Society (ZERG) and the BCDSS\, Research Area C: "Control\, Coercion\, and 
 Constraint II. The Role of Religion in Overcoming and Creating Structures 
 of Dependency". The lecture series tackles the role of religion in both ov
 ercoming existing and creating new forms and types of dependencies. This i
 s a hybrid event. The lecture will also be streamed via youtube.
