DESCRIPTION:Béla Bodó is associate professor for Eastern European Histor
 y at the University of Bonn as well as investigator at the BCDSS. His curr
 ent research revolves around the issue of the dependency of Jews on the st
 ate and the political and social elites in Hungary and East-Central Europe
  after 1848 to achieve full emancipation and defeat antisemitism. In his l
 ecture he explores "The Numerus Clausus Law of 1920\, Asymmetrical Depende
 nc(ies) and the Twisted Road of Hungarian Jews to Auschwitz". His lecture 
 is part of the ZERG public lecture series\, organized by the Centre for Re
 ligion and Society (ZERG) and the BCDSS\, Research Area C: "Control\, Coer
 cion\, and Constraint II. The Role of Religion in Overcoming and Creating 
 Structures of Dependency". The lecture series tackles the role of religion
  in both overcoming existing and creating new forms and types of dependenc
 ies. This is a hybrid event. The lectures will also be streamed via youtub
 e.
