DESCRIPTION:Sinah Kloß is research group leader of the BCDSS research gro
 up "Marking Power: Embodied Dependencies\, Haptic Regimes and Body Modific
 ation". Her research project discusses the sensory history of body modific
 ation and the interrelation of permanence\, tactility\, religion and servi
 tude in Hindu Indian communities of colonial Suriname\, Trinidad and Guyan
 a. In her lecture she explores "Marks of Dependency: Religious Tattooing a
 mong Caribbean Hindu Women". Her lecture is part of the ZERG public lectur
 e series\, organized by the Centre for Religion and Society (ZERG) and the
  BCDSS\, Research Area C: "Control\, Coercion\, and Constraint II. The Rol
 e of Religion in Overcoming and Creating Structures of Dependency". The le
 cture series tackles the role of religion in both overcoming existing and 
 creating new forms and types of dependencies. This is a hybrid event. The 
 lecture will also be streamed via youtube.
