This specialized fellowship is part of a long-term research initiative by the Stiftung Preußische Seehandlung to explore the multi-dimensional economic, political, and cultural legacy of the historic Seehandlungs-Society (founded in 1772).
From 2020 to 2025, Dr. Jutta Wimmler contributed significantly to the BCDSS as a Research Group Leader, where she spearheaded the project "The Concept of Slavery in African History" within the Cluster of Excellence "Beyond Slavery and Freedom". Her extensive academic background includes a Ph.D. from the University of Graz, a long-standing position as a postdoctoral researcher at the Europa-Universität Viadrina, and major publications exploring global trade, raw material transfers, and early modern dependency structures in the Atlantic world.
