This edition is dedicated to the theme of Child Dependency, bringing children to the centre of the discussion and exploring how childhood was and is shaped by strong asymmetrical dependencies across societies spanning more than two millennia.
Drawing on a rich variety of sources, including childhood letters, baptismal registers, legal and trade records, visual art, song transcriptions, and skeletal remains, and employing a wide range of methodological approaches, our contributors explore children not simply as passive dependants but as individuals who navigated unequal relationships with resilience, agency, and creativity.
The issue also features reports from field research in Côte d’Ivoire and Cuba, as well as from exploratory visits aimed at strengthening international partnerships, alongside conference reports, news, recent publications, and upcoming events.
