We are pleased to announce the release of a new Roman Bonn–themed heritage trail via the free mobile app Actionbound.
Inspired by our Roman Bonn tour, this interactive trail invites participants to explore the city by following the footsteps of Bassiana, a woman who lived in the Roman period near the legionary camp Bonna. Through her perspective, players gain insight into everyday life in the Roman Rhineland.
Bassiana was born in the Colonia Claudia Ara Agrippinensium (Cologne) as a free Ubian woman whose family had been granted Roman citizenship. She lives with her family near Bonna, while her husband serves as a Roman soldier in the legio I Minervia. On a hot summer day, she sets out with her children and her slave Euthenia to seek refreshment – and invites players to accompany her on this journey.
Along the way, historical locations, background information, and small challenges combine to create an engaging introduction to Bonn’s Roman history. The trail was created by Maja Keller and can be completed independently, individually or in groups.
This activity enables students to learn at an early stage of their academic career how to communicate the academic knowledge acquired at university in a way that is appropriate for a specific target audience. In particular, prospective teachers and those working in the education sector can develop important practical skills.
