A social research and management professional with 10 plus years of experience in the Middle East non-profit sector. Dima moved to Germany in 2017 to pursue her doctoral degree in the area of conflict and gender studies at the University of Bonn. Her doctoral research examines the effects of conflict, displacement, and host-country contexts on Syrian women’s participation in civic organizations in Turkey and Lebanon. In her analysis, Dima makes use of intersectional frameworks to study the influence of key social markers (such as gender, ethnicity, socioeconomic class, rural/urban origins etc.) in exacerbating gendered inequalities and hindering the inclusion and full participation of these women in civic organizations. She has shared some of her findings in academic publications, conferences, and through participations in a number of sociology seminars at the University of Bonn. She is also a member of the ZEF Gender group, and currently serves as the coordinator for the thematic group 'Gender and Work.'
