Slave Dealing and Children in the Late Ottoman Istanbul

Commencing my exploration into the realm of historical craftsmanship in early 2022, my doctoral research delves into the intricate tapestry of children's enslavement, with particular emphasis on their harrowing ordeals predominantly within domestic confines. During the late 19th century, a multitude of discerning Istanbul residents, occupying privileged positions, engaged in the acquisition and trafficking of youthful individuals bereft of liberty, driven by diverse motivations. My scholarly inquiry aims to elucidate the intricate interplay of connections, encounters, experiences, and the agency of these subjugated minors, set against the backdrop of the abolitionist era and the anti-slavery measures undertaken within the Ottoman Empire.
