12 November, Kino in der Brotfabrik, Bonn. 19:30 screening / 21:00 Refreshments & Discussion

Come and join us on Thursday, 12 November 2026, for the screening and discussion of Black faces in white? space (2021), a documentary film by Thabo Thindi!

Black faces in white? space explores the dynamics and complexity of being Black in a country that regards itself as homogeneously white. In doing so, the filmmaker seeks to offer new perspectives on Blackness.

Through striking imagery, director Thabo Thindi portrays the experiences of Black people in institutional settings and takes a critical look at white power structures and colonial legacies.

Thabo Thindi's approach to art goes beyond the medium of film: He combines film with photography and poetry, and - through street interventions - invites the public to be part of the creative process of exploring the everyday reality of Black people in Germany.

Some of his exhibition posters and materials will be on display at our screening event, alongside three photographs that Thabo Thindi co-selected as winning entries of the "Dekoloniale Perspektiven" competition, run by the Arbeitsgemeinschaft der Entwicklungsdienste (AGdD).

For a glimpse of Thabo Thindi's photographic work, explore his 2023 portraits of Black residents in Munich, created through conversations and encounters that bring their shared resilience, experiences of migration, and ongoing struggles for liberation into focus. The portraits are available online at the Münchner Stadtmuseum.

POST-SCREENING REFRESHMENTS AND TALK WITH DIRECTOR THABO THINDI

He will be happy to answer any questions about the film and share experiences and perspectives on being Black in Germany.
