Documentary Screenings

The Department of SEA studies (IOA) in cooperation with The Bonn Center for Dependency and Slavery Studies (BCDSS) invites you to a double screening exploring the human, ecological, and political costs of large-scale development across Indonesia. From geothermal energy initiatives in Flores island to massive rainforest clearance for industrial mega-projects in southern Papua, these documentaries critically examine how international finance and national strategic agendas often collide with local livelihoods. By centering the voices and resistance of affected Indigenous and rural communities, the films challenge prevailing narratives of "sustainability" and "green transition," shedding light on modern structures of extraction, dependency, and ongoing colonial dynamics.
